The peak of summer is drawing to a close as August slips away. What a season it’s been here at CFC HQ. July had us dashing across the country, and August carried on at exactly the same pace- which is just how we like it. Long days, beautiful locations, plenty of miles on the road and some brilliant stories captured on camera. Here’s a look back at what we’ve been up to this month…
Great British Racing – Bude Beach
We began August at the seaside with Great British Racing, heading to Bude Beach for a shoot celebrating National Racehorse Week. The vision was all about calm seas, golden skies, and horses galloping through the surf- but nature had other ideas. Strong winds and a storm on the horizon kept us on our toes, but our new drone (DJI Mavic 4 Pro) handled the conditions perfectly and gave us some epic aerial shots. Callie Coles and Alan Johns were absolute troopers, braving the weather to bring the shoot to life with some lovely horses- one being a recently retired racehorse from Paul Nicholls, Dollos. You can catch some of that spectacular footage over on our Instagram.

Old Gold Racing - Paul Nicholls’
From the coastline to the heart of racing country: our next stop was Paul Nicholls’ famous yard in Ditcheat, Somerset. Old Gold Racing had just bought a new gelding. A winning English point to pointer who is a really lovely type, he will launch soon so keep an eye out! Filming at Ditcheat is always a treat- the sheer scale and efficiency of the operation is incredible and with plenty of new changes this season it feels like an exciting time for the team. Abby was on a buzz with the social content, grabbing interviews with jockeys, staff and assistant trainers. She even managed to snap a photo of Louis with the man himself, Mr. Paul Nicholls (twins?). If any National hunt Racing fan ever gets the opportunity to go there, we’d highly recommend it!

Big Skies Glamping
Switching gears from racing to relaxation, we headed just south of Cheltenham to film at Big Skies Glamping. This shoot really tested our creativity (and flexibility!), with cameras squeezed into unusual corners, drones darting through the air and plenty of inventive angles to capture the experience one would have there. From sunrise coffee spots to evenings under the stars, our aim was to bottle up the magic of a Big Skies stay. It was a shoot full of laughs, challenges, and we’re looking forward to sharing that rewarding moment when everything comes together on screen. Their motto is ‘ A gently wild place to feel human again’ and we can safely say our backs felt pretty human (and sore) after squeezing into the glamping pods. The vision for the shoot came from our good friend and photographer Chris Boulton. Chris has a very creative mind and wrote the entire concept, hopefully we can do it justice!

RDA Filming Continues
Our work with RDA has continued throughout the month, taking us to several locations across the Cotswolds and beyond. Each visit leaves us more inspired, but one story in particular stood out. At Cotswold RDA, we met an incredible woman whose two children live for their riding sessions. Their joy, confidence, and enthusiasm lit up the stables and it was a privilege to capture that bond on film. We can’t wait to share their story- it’s a reminder of the power of horses to change lives. We’ve been no strangers to the Cotswold RDA over the years and are always greeted with open arms. Debbie and her team do a wonderful job.
WellChild Helping Hands
WellChild have been a regular client of ours for a long time now, we film their annual awards ceremony every September as well as a few other jobs through the year. This month we helped film a short feature for them as part of their Helping Hands project. Think DIY SOS, we were filming a building project for them. WellChild is another charity that changes peoples lives for the better. This project helps so many people and is such an important cause.
GBR - Harry Skelton x Adam Blythe
One place we always enjoy going to is Dan Skelton Racing, in the past we’ve even come home with a horse (long story)! This time it wasn't horses we were filming, but more so bikes. Harry Skelton is a keen cyclist anyway, but he was visited by Adam Blythe (former professional cyclist and presenter) and the two swapped saddles. All went smoothly until a flat tyre and no spare inner tube, Tom Messenger (Dan's assistant trainer) to the rescue and we filmed lots of incredible content. Looking forward to seeing this in the editing room.

Jockey Club - Cheltenham
On the same day as Dan Skeltons, we had a separate job at Cheltenham Racecourse. This was filming lots of social media bits for The Jockey Club. Our trusty friend Sonny went to film this one, Sonny has worked on many shoots for us over the years including ‘A Ride With Sprinter Sacre’ and all of the Halfords bike shoots.
BASC - Glenogle
Now at the end of the month, we swapped stables and campsites for the prestigious Glenogle Estate with BASC. Filming in Glenogle was nothing short of breathtaking- towering hills, sweeping valleys, and scenery that makes every shot cinematic before we’ve even touched the edit. Days like these remind us how lucky we are to do what we do. We were filming wild Grouse being shot over pointers, a traditional technique where pointers are used to point and flush the birds. These dogs are incredibly trained and are amazing athletes. It was a day that will live in our memories for a long time, thanks to Felicity Marshall from BASC for making these shoots happen.

Team Highlights
On the sporting side, Cheltenham Town sadly haven’t had the dream start to the season, finding themselves at the bottom of the league table with no points after five games- a change of manager needed?
Looking ahead, we’re all gearing up for the Fergal O’Brien Golf Day on September 2nd. With the CFC team finishing 5th last year, the challenge is on to at least match- if not beat- that performance this time around. Sam Fizor can’t play this year but we have a super sub in Patrick Sayce.
Abby’s spent most of her free time with Boss Man Fred and he’s looking close to being ready for his first non-racing competition… Exciting!
A special mention to our editor Billie. In this busy period we heavily rely on delivering edits on time to our clients. Billie has worked tirelessly over the last couple of months to deliver some outstanding bits of work. It’s so difficult to juggle multiple projects at the same time and we really appreciate everything she’s doing. Tomorrow we have an interesting shoot involving a 1960’s Ford Mustang, that will Be revealed in next month's edition!
That wraps up August- a month of wild weather, inspiring stories, and some of the most stunning backdrops we’ve ever filmed in. Thanks as always to everyone we’ve worked with, and here’s to an action-packed September ahead
